At Turneffe, bonefish are routinely found tailing on hard coral flats in very skinny water. The average size of Turneffe's bonefish is in the 3 to 6 pound range with good odds at catching a single that weighs as much as 8 lbs.
As the popularity of chasing permit with a fly rod has increased over the past few years, so has the number of anglers frequenting Turneffe Flats in search of this challenging fish. Turneffe Atoll has ideal permit habitat and can offer angler’s in search of this quarry plenty of shots at tailing, cruising and schooled up permit. If you are looking for your best shot at catching paranoid permit, put Turneffe Flats high on your list. |
Tarpon can be fished for year round, but are especially sought in the summer months when migratory tarpon move in. As Cap says, "The tarpon come with the heavy rains". The possibility of catching a silver king in the 100 plus pound range increases dramatically in June, July, August and September.
Angler’s seeking more fishing at the end of the day can take the sea kayaks down the large ocean side flat looking for bonefish and the occasional permit. Or, simply relax on the screened in verandah with some local rum punch and reminisce about the days fishing.

We also recommend trip evacuation/rescue insurance with Global Rescue, a medical and security evacuation service. A brochure for each company is included in your pre-trip planning package.
