Whipray Caye is a very small private island located eight miles off the coast of Placencia. Owned and operated by Julian Cabral and his darling wife Beverly, this spot is custom made for serious salt-water fishermen and the independent traveler wanting to step away from everyday stress into a pure and natural world - where the fast pace comes to a splashing halt. This is a very remote and unspoiled area - one of the few remaining in the Western Hemisphere. With warm smiles and ice cold Belikins at the ready, Julian and Bev make it very easy to unwind and adjust to the slow rhythms of island life.

Julian is one of Belize's top permit guides and as such, is a great source of information about the area. Having Julian around makes fishing out of Whipray an experience you will never forget. The permit fishing is excellent and there are few places that offer better shots at this challenging fish. Several of the permit flats are only a five minute boat ride away from the island.

This is your classic permit setting for those who love to wade to their fish. Your guide will pole you along the pristine flats until a fish is spotted. You'll then be asked to quietly slip out of the boat and slowly wade toward the fish to get the best possible shot at it.

Whipray Caye can accommodate up to eight rods at a time, which makes it ideal for small groups looking for a unique and intimate setting. The cabanas, while basic, are comfortable. Each room has two double beds and its own private bathroom with hot and cold water. Don't expect posh because it isn't here. Fishing is. Hammocks on the porch invite weary anglers to stop and rest while offering the perfect place to watch the sun set on another day in Permit Paradise. If that doesn't suit you, the thatched roof bar will. It's a wonderful place to have a cold beer and dissect the day's events while tying up a few Merkins or shooting a game of darts. Julian is certain to add to the comedy.

The food is fantastic, some of the best in all of Belize. The house specialty is fresh seafood. Lobster, conch, shrimp, and fresh fish are served daily (in season) and in abundant portions.
